Dr. David Fasold

SENIOR PASTOR

David grew up as a missionary kid in Barcelona Spain. He moved to the U.S. for his college years and received a bachelor’s in Business and Psychology from Calvin College. The best part of college, however, was meeting his wife, Sandy. They have been married since 1989 and have three adult children and one granddaughter. After serving in the San Francisco Bay area for 30 years, they accepted the call to Journey South Bay in 2023. David and Sandy love to golf, travel, play with their mini-Australian shepherd, and of course, spoil their granddaughter Jett.

She loves the local church and has various important roles at Journey (worship coordinator and leader, young adults’ leader, and youth leader among other things). Nicole graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a double major in Relational and Organizational Communications. She loves to make (or buy) a good latte, play guitar, do photography, or kick David’s butt in golf (She was a 3x All-American golfer in college!)

Liina Nygren

YOUTH DIRECTOR

Liina grew up at Journey South Bay and graduated from West Torrance High School, making her the ideal person to know and serve the youth of this community. She played on the volleyball team and graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN with a bachelor’s in Business Marketing and Human Resources. She loves going to the beach, drinking coffee, arranging flowers, and traveling. (She likes to think of herself as an Airbnb connoisseur!)

He married his high school sweetheart Cheryl in 1978, and they have 2 married adult children and 5 grandchildren. John has served in ministry his entire adult life, most recently as the Interim Teaching Pastor at Grace Church Glendora. After growing up in the South Bay, Greg graduated from UCLA majoring in Geology and English. Greg is a professional tutor for ages K-12, and at night and the weekends loves to unwind with a good book or anything from his trove of board games. Naoki Gima

MEDIA SPECIALIST

While Naoki’s parents were originally from Lima, Peru, he was born in Japan, but grew up in Redondo Beach. He recently graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Naoki has won multiple awards for photography and is a huge all-around sports fan (Philadelphia Eagles, Liverpool F.C. and Boston Celtics--booooo). He regularly plays drums with the worship team on Sunday mornings and is a third-degree black belt in karate (so maybe don’t say anything to him if you think he was playing off beat or the drums were too loud--lol).

OUR LEADERSHIP BOARD

While our church day-to-day operations are led by our staff, we have a leadership board that oversees the big-picture direction of the church. Sometimes this group is referred to as “elders” as that is the New Testament word used for those chosen by the congregation to provide leadership and oversight in a local congregation. Our Senior Pastor is the one cross-over person serving on both the staff team and leadership board.

OUR VOLUNTEER LEADERS

While our staff and leadership board have a unique role in our church, we also want to acknowledge the importance we place on all our ministry leaders and volunteers. Without this team of volunteers who faithfully serve in various ministries we could not fulfill our mission and do our very best to make more and better Christ-followers.
