WHAT WE BELIEVE
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

Logo-WHite_Shadow_JSB Circle_Manrope_20241008.png

Research tells us that many today do not consider the details of what a church believes before they decide to start attending and join a church. We happen to believe that our Statement of Faith (below) is potentially the most important guiding factor someone should review before becoming an active participant of a local congregation.  And for that reason, we thank you for taking the time to read through this page.

Just so you know, this is not intended to be a comprehensive explanation of our doctrinal positions, but rather a modest introduction to what we believe, hoping it will give you insight into our theological views. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to email, or call us. We love to talk about this stuff!

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that individuals were moved by the Spirit to write the exact words God wanted for us. The Bible is without error in its original form, completely trustworthy, and the ultimate authority in our lives. The Bible alone determines what we believe to be true and how to live in order to please God fully.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, Psalm 19:7-11, Matthew 4:4, 2 Peter 1:21

Jesus

Jesus was born of a virgin thereby avoiding being born with a sinful nature- as the rest of mankind is. We believe that Jesus was both fully God and fully man. He lived a perfect life without sin and died on our behalf to deal with the problem of sin and pay the penalty of death that only we deserve. On the third day after his death, he miraculously rose from the dead proving he was God and conquering death for all those who might choose to embrace him as their Savior.  Jesus ascended into heaven and is there preparing a place for us.

Matthew 1:18, Romans 5:12, 19, Hebrews 4:15, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Corinthians 15:5-7

God

We believe there is one God, existing in three distinct persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are each fully and completely God. God is the creator and sustainer of life and deserving of all our worship and praise. We exist to serve and glorify God, not the other way around. God reveals himself to us through general revelation (creation) and through special revelation (the Bible).

Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Matthew 3:16-17, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Psalm 96:4, 9

Man

We believe that people were created male or female, made in the image of God to have relationship with Him, but we became alienated from that relationship because of disobedience. Being created in God’s image means that man is more like God than anything else He created. All mankind is also born with a sinful nature. Practically, this means we all have “good” in us (image of God) and we all have “bad” in us (sinful nature). The essence of mankind is that we have a material physical part of us (our bodies) and a non-material part of us (our spirit/soul).

Genesis 1:26-27, Psalm 51:5, Romans 5:12-21, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Genesis 3:6-7

Salvation

We believe that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection provides the only basis for forgiveness of sins and for restoring a right relationship with God. Therefore, salvation only occurs, when through God’s grace, a person turns from their sin, places their faith in Jesus as the sufficient payment for their sin. Through Christ we receive atonement (His work on the cross for us) and through the Holy Spirit we receive sanctification (His work to help us live to please God).

Ephesians 2:8-10, Isaiah 53:4-6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 3:21-26

The End Times

We believe in the sudden, personal, visible, and bodily return of Jesus Christ.  While nobody knows exactly when this will happen, the Bible does give us hints and signs to look for. The challenge we are given in Scripture is to be ready for His return, to not be discouraged with what we see going on in the world, and to tell as many people as we can about the good news of Jesus as possible. Upon Christ’s return we believe in the resurrection of the dead, the establishment of a new heaven and new earth, and the judgment resulting in some experiencing eternal life with God and others eternal punishment and separation from God.

Matthew 24:44, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, 2 Peter 3:8-9, Revelation 21:3-4,

1 Corinthians 2:9, Revelation 20:11-15, 2 Corinthians 5:9-10

The Church

In the Bible, the church is referred to as a family, the bride of Christ, a flock, a temple, and the body of Christ of which Jesus is the head/leader. The members are those who have trusted by faith in Christ as their Savior, Lord, and Best Friend. The purpose of the church is to glorify and honor God by loving Him and making more and better followers of Jesus, and to communicate the good news of salvation through Christ to the world.

Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 1 Peter 5:2-3, Ephesians 1:22-23, Colossians 1:18

The Christian Life

We believe that every Christian should “die to self” and instead live for Christ. God helps us to resist the patterns of the world and live like Christ by giving us the Holy Spirit at the moment of our salvation. We are called to a life of obedience to God and His Word, and desire to pattern our daily living after the life of Jesus, a life of humble service and unconditional love to others.

John 13:35, 1 Peter 1:14, Acts 5:29
