About our church
Journey South Bay is a community of followers of Jesus Christ who want to share the grace and love of God and grow in His Word.
Our church is uniquely known for its welcoming casual atmosphere, its warm hospitality, its annual family Summer camp for families of children effected with autism, its weekly dinners served to the homeless in the local area, volunteering with the foster youth, and its annual Winter missions trip to Baja, Mexico to construct houses for the needy among other things.
Our mission at Journey South Bay is to glorify God by helping people become devoted followers of Christ.
History of Journey South Bay
It is rare to hear of two separate churches, similar in belief, partnering together to serve God from one bible. That is precisely how Journey South Bay was born.
Journey South Bay is a partnering of Journey Covenant Church and of South Bay Community Church of the Brethren -- retaining our own distinctive traditions while worshiping and serving together.
Journey Covenant Church was a church plant started by Rolling Hills Covenant Church in 2002 by one of their staff pastors, Jim Stewart. Through the years Journey Covenant Church met in homes, parks, and public grade schools. It was literally a mobile church in a box until it started sharing church facilities with South Bay Community Church of the Brethren. Journey Covenant Church has a daughter church, Fountain of Life Covenant Church, planted by Pastor John Teter in Long Beach, CA. For information about the Covenant denomination, see www.covchurch.org.
South Bay Community Church of the Brethren began as a Redondo Beach church plant in 1907, relocating to Hermosa Beach in the 1920's and then back to Redondo Beach in the 1950's. For information about the Church of the Brethren denomination, see www.brethren.org.
